Our Story
Our Club’s main objective is to promote friendship between women of all nationalities living in Gascony, South-West France, to share our interests and to offer help when needed.
The Ladies Lunch Club started in 2008, by a group of English ladies living in the Gers, near Nogaro. They were learning a foreign language, experiencing a new life and for some, feeling lonely and isolated. The group aimed to support women who were new to the area, to give them an opportunity to meet people and to make new friends at monthly lunches which, at that time, were held in the Nogaro area only.
In 2014, the club became a non-profit making Association, known as Ladies Lunch Club de l’Armagnac, and was re-named in 2019 as the Gascogne Ladies Club as we offer much more than just lunches.
Since those early days, our membership has grown considerably. Today we have 105 members covering a wide area of the Gers and beyond. We still meet for lunch once a month in different restaurants around the Gers.
As we’ve grown and members have expressed interest in different activities, several different sub-groups have been created. Currently these are: Book Group, Garden Group, Gersabelles (singing), Causeries (French conversation groups) and the Knitting and Crochet Group.
We have newly-arrived women joining each month, and also women who have lived here for years; who have only just discovered us and are keen to make new friendships and discover new areas of interest.
Today we have eleven nationalities, and our speaking/working language is English.
