Helping Each Other
Even in our beautiful part of France, while enjoying all the beauty it has to offer, things sometimes go wrong.
If a member of the Gascogne Ladies Club (GLC) needs a temporary helping hand or emergency assistance, members will be asked to help.
For example this might be to provide a lift to the hospital, guiding during a visit to the doctor, getting help with cooking, dog sitting, partner sitting.
We will write to all members to see if anyone living near the member can help.
Naturally, every request will be treated in complete confidence and anonymously.
The GLC
Relationship Manager
My name is Magda, a Dutch national, I speak English and reasonable French and German. I have been a member of the GLC for many years enjoying the friends I have made over lunches and the many events that have been organised.
I am the intermediary for the Bureau and the community of Réans, the “siège social” of the GLC, and I am coordinating “Helping Each Other”.
I am the point of contact for anyone who wants to know something about the GLC, who has a problem within a group they belong to, or needs clarification on something. I can directly provide information or refer a member to the right person within the GLC or have you contacted.
You can also contact me if you just want to talk to someone, as I am an active listener for Cancer Support France, and was also a volunteer in the Netherlands for a telephone helpline.
It’s a startling fact that 1 in 7 UK females will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime
(source: Cancer Research UK).
Imagine how many members of the Gascogne Ladies Club have, have had or will become a victim of breast cancer.
Two of our members have come forward who want to listen to people who are ill, or who want to accompany them to the hospital.
Consideration has also been given to setting up a buddy system if there is interest in this.
If you want to support this initiative because you have or have had cancer, you can email Magda directly via the envelope link above.
If you have (breast) cancer and you think you want to talk to someone or need help in any other way, Magda can help support you.
Naturally, all information will be treated in compete confidence.
In Gascony there is an organisation for English-speaking people to help patients and their families suffering from cancer. Magda is an Active Listener for this association.
If you want to know more, you can contact Magda, or you can find out more information on the Cancer Support France website:
Would you like to be part of the GLC buddy system?
If you’re empathetic, patient, have time to sit and listen or simply help drive someone to a doctor’s appointment, please let us know…..
